Introduction to our property

bantham devon accommodationSet on the waterside of the River Avon in the village of Bantham, Devon. With views across the surf to Burgh  Island, White Horses is a private, uniquely idyllic holiday location a short walk from the beautiful sands of Bantham and the 16th century Sloop Inn.

One of Bantham's 19th century properties sleeping 10 – 14, White Horses went through extensive modernisation in 2010 to provide accommodation facilities to meet the needs of today’s families.

A considered internal design provides spacious communal areas, including a glorious kitchen-dinner for family gatherings; yet three smaller open-plan kitchen-living areas adjacent to sleeping areas providing individual family space too.

This beautiful home, surrounded by private gardens, Bantham's sand dunes, rural walks and outdoor activities and the Sloop Inn, offers the ideal location for a family get-away. The property has a beautiful view across Bantham and Bigbury Bay.

Bantham Accommodation

bantham devon accommodationComing into Bantham, arrive through stone pillars through to parking for six vehicles. Stop to take in the view across Bantham, to the Avon river and Burgh Island.  In the lobby, walk past the door to the large twin-shower wet room, laundry area and storage areas, to the foot of the wooden glass-panelled stairwell. Turn to your left, and through the double-door entrance to the extensive kitchen-dinner, through the wall of concertina patio doors, admire the view once again.

bantham devon accommodationStep from the lobby in to the dining area, across to the marble-surfaced kitchen, with ample storage spaces, electric hob and cooker, and the window seating so you can enjoy the views across Bantham.  Opposite the kitchen is a comfortable living room space, with games, books and SKY TV on a large widescreen.  The concertina patio doors from the dining area make way to a large patio area and the lawn and gardens.

The lobby also leads to a lockable door into the ground floor separable accommodation area, Butter Bay.  Walking through Butter Bay’s open plan kitchen-living area a corridor leads on one side to a double room with a view down to the river, and on the other side a shower room;  the corridor ends with an exterior door in to the garden.

White Horses, Bedroom 1The first floor provides two bedrooms with a bath/ shower room and a further two separable accommodation areas, both with open-plan living areas and double rooms:  River Flat & Island Flat.

The first bedroom is a bunk room, with a double lower bunk and a single upper bunk. The second bedroom presents a king size bed, with views across Bantham and access out on to a large wooden balcony.

 

bantham devon accommodationOf the separable accommodation areas in White Horses, Island Flat on the first floor is the largest, with a large bedroom leading on to the shared balcony, shower room, a spacious living room with sofa-bed for two, and a separate, well-equipped kitchen, which has a dining table for four, and leads out to a shared 1st floor patio area with spiral staircase to the groundfloor.

bantham devon accommodationThe second separable living area on the first floor is River Flat, which benefits from an open plan kitchen-living area, with access to the patio area and spiral staircase access shared with Island Flat, adjacent to River Flat's kitchen.

The final accommodation, Under Folly, is situated on the lower-ground floor with exterior access only. Under Folly offers a small shower-room, small lobby area and an open-plan kitchen/living area with double sofa bed.

The gardens extend down from the lawn to paths running amongst landscaped shrubs, leading to the river’s edge. Bantham village set in the heart of the beautiful South Hams in Devon, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, presents thatched cottages, a small village shop and post office and well-known pub, The Sloop Inn. White Horses is 5mins walk from Bantham beach.

Bantham is by far the most popular beach in South Devon. The long sands are broken by rocky out crops and sand dunes that give the beach an almost Australian appearance. Bantham beach is popular with water sports enthusiasts and is a Mecca for Devon surfers. The beach has RNLI lifeguards throughout the summer, and is a stones throw from Burgh Island, home to a famous art-deco hotel, where many Agatha Christie novels were written. Bantham village is home to the 16th century pub The Sloop Inn, where you can enjoy a fantastic meal and good pint of local Devon ale.

Bantham History

At the end of the village lies the Bantham Ham. It is here that reputedly the Danes invaded in
the 9th century, only to be slaughtered in a bloody battle.
